Moorestown Improvement Association announces its 2025 scholarship winners
The Moorestown Improvement Association (MIA) is pleased to announce that Moorestown High School students Emily Chalbert and Isabella (“Bella”) Feliciano are the recipients of its annual scholarship awards. Emily received the MIA Scholarship, for $1000, in recognition of her contributions and commitment to Moorestown, and Bella received the Ellen Shiplee Scholarship, also for $1000, for her record of volunteer service to the greater community. Both winners are members of the MHS 2025 graduating class. Emily Chalbet will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall. She plans to major in psychology, with a minor in women, gender, and sexuality studies. Admitting to dealing with some of her own mental health issues in the past, and also watching her peers battle with theirs, Emily hopes to make a difference by becoming a child psychologist or child life specialist. “I want to make kids feel safe, listened to, and be able to live a carefree life that each adolescent deserves,” she says. While a student at MHS, Emily was involved in sports, including the swim team for four years, and was also selected to represent the school at Girls State. In addition, she was one of the leaders of Period Moorestown, a student club that collected thousands of menstrual products for those who could not afford them and donated them to local shelters. In her senior year, the club saw its tireless efforts finally result in tampons and pads being provided for girls in the MHS restrooms. Emily described their accomplishment as “incredibly fulfilling…People stopped and thanked me for working so hard to get such a basic thing done.” Bella Feliciano will be entering Jacksonville University in the fall, where she plans to study psychology and art, with a focus on photography. During her years at MHS, Bella was very involved in the orchestra and other arts-related activities. She also devoted countless hours to work in service-oriented clubs and organizations, including those supporting UNICEF and Farmers Against Hunger. Bella says volunteering has given her a way to connect with and give back to her community. “Through working at community events, helping local charities, and mentoring younger students,” she says, “I have learned important skills like communication, leadership, and teamwork. Volunteering has opened my eyes to the challenges others face and taught me how important it is to stay involved.” The Moorestown Improvement Association congratulates Emily Chalbert and Isabella Feliciano, its 2025 scholarship recipients, for being great models of the organization’s core values! |
